The Monster Hunt has always been powered by imagination — and this year, we’re opening the door even wider. After hearing from our community, we’re excited to announce that the Design Our Next Monster contest is now open to all ages!
Whether you’re a teen artist, a creative adult, or someone who’s always wanted to design a creature for the Monster Hunt, this is your moment. From now through November 15, you can submit your own original monster design for a chance to become part of Monster Hunt history.
Creativity Has No Age Limit
Grab your favorite art tools — crayons, markers, colored pencils, digital tablets, paint, whatever inspires you — and let your imagination take over.
Is your monster dramatic, mysterious, chaotic, or kind? Do they have noodle hair, glowing eyes, tiny wings, giant horns, or a mischievous grin? Maybe they leave behind sparkles, slime, smoke, or cryptic clues.
You decide. Create a creature that feels right at home in the Monster Hunt world — silly, spooky, elegant, strange, or totally unexpected.
How to Enter (Ages 14+)
A new application is available specifically for ages 14 and up. You can pick one up in the Teen space, Adult Services, or download it online.
✔ Open to ages 14+
✔ All art styles welcome
✔ Digital submissions accepted at marketing@ahplibrary.org
✔ Entries due November 15
Your monster could become an official character in the 2027 Monster Hunt, complete with its own badge, clues, and hiding spot around Auburn Hills.
Why We Expanded the Contest
Monster Hunt is a community tradition — and creativity doesn’t stop at eighth grade. We heard from teens, parents, and adults who wanted to join in, and we’re thrilled to make space for more voices, more art styles, and more imagination.
The Monster Hunt family grows stronger (and sillier) when more creators participate.
Ready to Design?
Download the application, grab your art supplies, and start dreaming up your creature. We can’t wait to meet the monsters our teens and adults bring to life.
